Wilfred Hardy, 71, a resident of Campbell St., North Sydney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hilda (Rossiter) Hardy.
He was a member and elder of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and a member of the Church Men's Club.
In his earlier years, he worked on Kelly's Farm, North Sydney, then with Kelly's Ship Chandlers and later with Joseph Salter and Sons Ltd.
He was an avid gardener spending many hours throughout the day working in his backyard garden. He was involved for many years and always enjoyed the Cape Breton Farmers Exhibition.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Willis) Hardy; two sons, John (Lisa), North Sydney, and Thomas, Halifax; daughter, Theresa (Jeff) Harding, Eddington, Me.; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Tyler; brother, Harold (Helen) Hardy, Balls Creek; two sisters, Audrey (Jim) Hiscock, Prince Edward Island, and Edie (Gordon) Bonnar, Fredericton, N.B. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by stepbrother, Claude Hardy and sister, Edie.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
